International Friendly: Ella Vannin Vs. Monaco in Benefit of Darfur United

On April 6th, Manx Independent Football Association Ella Vannin from the Isle of Man is competing against Monaco for the first time. In honor of International Day of Sport, all the proceeds from the international match will be in aid of Darfur United, an International Football Team established in the refugee camps on the Chad/Darfur Border and their quest to join Ellan Vannin in the Football World Cup in Ostersund, Sweden in the first week of June this year.

Darfur United serves as a vehicle for awareness and support for a refugee community that has lived through unspeakable horrors and that has been forced to live a less than complete life in remote camps. The team’s story brings the grave issues such as homelessness and war to a large audience through a relatable story of a team’s journey to a competition. Not only is Darfur United an opportunity for the refugees to represent their people and play, it is also a movement to bring hope, inspiration, and joy to the displaced people of Darfur. After hearing about Darfur United, one refugee leader said: “Now we are a part of the world.”

The event is sponsored for the Confederation of Independent Football Associations (CONIFA) and is hosted at The Bowl in Isle of Man. The event is open to the public. People can attend the event on Isle of Man or watch the event live online.
