Hasankeyf is an ancient town and district located along the Tigris River in the Batman Province in southeastern Turkey. The ancient Turkish city of Hasankeyf is 12,000 years old. The Romans, Byzantines, Turkic tribes and Ottomans have all settled there, leaving their mark on the city’s rich history.It was declared a natural conservation area by Turkey in 1981. Hasankeyf is rich in history throughout the ages and aside from the sites below, thousands of caves exist in the cliffs that surround the city. Currently, tourists will find small rest rooms and eating joints in the numerous caves of Hasankeyf.
