INTERNATIONAL DAY OF SPORT FOR DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE
Melissa: Sport is a universal language and a human right!

Melissa: Sport is a universal language and a human right!

During my International Relations academic education, I was very passionate to study foreign languages and learn about human rights protection.
When I integrated the Peace and Sport team, I discovered how sport combines these two passions!

  • Sport is a universal language that brings people together and, as the Olympic Charter states, the practice of sport is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practising sport, without discrimination of any kind and, through the values that sport transmit, become a better person and contribute to build more equal and inclusive societies!

Today I raise my #WhiteCard to celebrate sport and the positive impact that it has on individuals and communities!

Ferdinando: sport has always been with me

Ferdinando: sport has always been with me

I am a former tennis coach and Peace and Sport Coordinator. Sport has always been with me, teaching me passion and other values such as respect, self-control, determination and many others that permitted me to grow as an individual. I eventually coached kids for 2 years while I was studying.

  • It made me further realize the impact that sport can have on children and the role that it can play on their development. Working with Peace and Sport made me understand how sport can be effective for individuals and societies, regardless their situation and worldwide.

They have also become more disciplined.

Sport plays a major role in qualifying individuals and providing them with skills that help them integrate peacefully with people and in their societies. I realized that sport is one of the most important individual development systems that help children and youth to develop their own potentials.

It grows in them the spirit of association, cooperation and belonging in one team.

Sport in general plays the role of an ambassador of achieving peace and bringing people together.
